Mental Health/Mindfulness for Children and Families

At Dunstable Icknield Lower School, we are committed to supporting the positive mental health and well-being of our whole school community (children, staff, parents and carers).

We recognise that our mental health and emotional well-being is just as important to our lives as our physical health. We know that children’s mental health is a crucial factor in their overall well-being and can affect their learning and achievement. At DILS we are committed to removing barriers to learning and work hard to equip children with strategies to manage in times of change, difficulty and stress. We will continue to address and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health difficulties and empower children, staff and parents to reach out and access help when they need it most. We continue to promote positive mental health and well-being as an integral part of everything we do. We are all too aware of the devastating impact the Covid-19 Pandemic has had on the mental health and well-being of many – we are ensuring extra attention is put into identifying and supporting well-being during this incredibly difficult time.

The guide below has been compiled as a signposting tool to local and national services for families to use to support their mental health and wellbeing. It is not a substitute for emergency support. If a person is in immediate danger or requires urgent medical attention, call 999. If a person is in a mental health crisis call NHS 111 and select option 2. Samaritans on 116 123 or MIND on 0300 123 3393 are also available.
