Eco Schools

We are very proud to say that we have been awarded an Eco-Schools Green Flag with Merit!

You’ve held an impressive number of Eco-Committee meetings this year and it’s brilliant to see that some of your pupils took on responsibility for keeping minutes at your meetings. The minutes uploaded were both neat and succinct, we loved seeing them and we’re glad that taking them helped boost your pupils’ confidence and allowed them to practise important skills. It's great that carrying out the Environmental Review helped your pupils to appreciate and celebrate everything that your school is already doing to benefit our environment whilst also enabling them to identify areas to work on in the future. Next time, it would be great to see some comments jotted down in the “Ideas and Thoughts” sections to enable us to better understand the discussions that took place and the thought process you went through at this stage! We admire your commitment in tackling areas where you scored lowest in the Environmental Review. This shows you have an ambitious and assured Eco-Committee, which has no doubt inspired others with its work. Your Action Plan, and the activities and projects planned for delivery, show that your Eco-Committee members have carefully considered how they can involve their entire school and the wider community in their Eco-Schools work to achieve maximum impacts and raise more awareness amongst their school community. It’s clear that you have embedded environmental issues into many different areas of your school curriculum and EYFS Framework with great enthusiasm. You’ve used your Eco-Schools topic work to enrich learning in your school and engage your pupils in important issues. Thank you for uploading some examples of the rich environmental curriculum on offer to your pupils and a lovely example of some extremely persuasive writing! Great stuff! We love that as a school you are using the power of social media to share your good work with the wider community. You’ve also used diverse methods to inform your school community about your ongoing projects, such as newsletters and your Eco-Board – you’ve placed a lot of emphasis on informing as many members of your school community as possible in your Eco-Schools work and this is a real strength of your application. Your uploaded Eco-Board and other supporting evidence really helped bring your application to life! Your greatest success is a brilliant achievement. Your school and moreover our planet as a whole will benefit from the implementation of “Meat-Free Mondays” as of September. This leaves a great legacy to build upon and is something to be extremely proud of. Time is a common challenge, familiar to all educators. It creates a pressure and takes resilience to keep going. Within this context, all your achievements this year are even greater, and we feel lucky that you’ve committed to our programme and delivered such fantastic results. Your acrostic poem Eco-Code is thoughtful yet also punchy and powerful, full of direct calls to action. It’s a great reflection of the ethos that your Eco-Committee has created, well done to all involved! Thank you for your question suggestions for next year’s Environmental Review, they’re interesting and intelligent ideas that we will take into consideration when compiling next year’s review. Well done for planning more formal actions such as writing to your MP – not only does this provide excellent persuasive writing practice, it also shows that your Eco-Committee knows there are many different ways to create change in our world. It has been an absolute pleasure to read through your application, you are a wonderful ambassador for the Eco-Schools programme, and we are delighted, without hesitation, to award you an Eco-Schools Green Flag with Merit – congratulations!
