Dunstable Icknield Lower School

Artsmark

We are an Artsmark School!

Pupils and staff at Dunstable Icknield Lower School have been celebrating after receiving Artsmark Silver Award. Artsmark is Arts Council England's award for schools that champion the arts and strive for excellence.  It celebrates schools that embrace the arts across the curriculum throughout the year, bringing them to life for children and young people.

In order to become an Artsmark school, Dunstable Icknield Lower had to develop their arts and culture provision to achieve a broad and balanced curriculum. Our whole school including the Governing Board and senior leadership team began the hard work to achieve Artsmark in September 2016.  After reviewing the provision at school, and identifying ways to continually improve we were awarded silver.  This was achieved by working alongside The Royal Opera House Bridge organisation and The Culture Challenge, to enable us to create an overall plan that is committed to and delivered across the whole school.

Artsmark has been created to help unlock the potential in young people, to develop their character and talent, and increase their knowledge and understanding through many rich and diverse learning opportunities and experiences.  In short, Artsmark has been created to bring the arts and culture to life in every classroom everyday.

Darren Henley, Chief Executive of Arts Council England, said:

"I would like to congratulate Dunstable Icknield Lower School on their Artsmark Award. As an Artsmark school, Dunstable Icknield Lower exemplifies how the Award can help schools to achieve a broad and balanced curriculum, ensuring that each of its pupils is given the opportunity to explore and build a love of the arts that will remain with them as they go through adult life."

We are extremely proud of achieving our  Artsmark Silver Award. We are committed to delivering a high quality art and cultural education for every child at Icknield and we look forward as we grow with Artsmark.  If you would like to learn more about Artsmark and for more information visit:
